Pre-Playoff Interview with Coach Andy Goellner (+ Sunday Prep - Matches 10/18/2020)
PLAYOFF BOUND!
Our Men’s 1st Team has qualified for the playoffs with the #1 seed after a strong showing this fall season, narrowly edging out Guadalajara by just a point (see final standings below). As a result, we will face the #4 seed, Rush, in the Semi-Finals this Sunday! We spoke with Head Coach Andy Goellner to the low-down, plus check out the weekend preview for our Women, U23’s, and Legends below.
What are your expectations heading into the playoffs?
I expect us to continue to strive to meet the standard we have set for ourselves. We have done a lot of hard work and set ourselves up in good position. Now its time to execute and put our money where our mouth is. This team has proven they are not just happy with winning. The standards we have are higher than just getting through a game with a win. It is to play at the highest level possible both individually and as a group. This is a strong motivated group and we're coming out to prove it in the playoffs.
What will be your message to the team regarding the keys to a successful playoff run?
We need to continue to focus on what brought us here. Our defense feeds our attack. We have a goal differential of plus 23 and have only given up 4 goals [during the Fall season]. That must continue. We have shown we can and will score goals. But not conceding, and the work, focus, and desire to make that happen is where we hang our hat as a team.
Any comments on the current form of the team?
I'm very happy with the form of the team. We had a disappointing loss to GAM and came back and took it out on a Rush team that was near the top of the table beating them 8-0. You are only as good as your last game, and your performance in your next one. But if we can keep the focus and the work rate high I like our chances.
A big thanks to Andy for all of his work thus far with our Men, and best of luck on Sunday!!
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
NOTE: Due to COVID-19 League restrictions, no guests or fans are allowed at games. Please follow our gameday results on our Twitter page or Monday Recaps here on the blog. It sucks, but we’re grateful to be able to play the game we love during this time.
