04/11 Weekend Recap
Men’s Team
Our premier men’s team had a dominant performance all round with a 11-0 result against Deportivo Camargo. They were able to establish pressure and presence in the opponents end from the very beginning of the match. A quick restart from David Villani to Alex Bernhardt for the first goal in the 9th minute set the tone for the rest of the game. The team continued to maintain pressure and possession in the Camargo end for the remainder of the game, putting away few more goals throughout the match, before the constant pressure caused Camargo to wilt. The floodgates opened through the last 30 minutes of the match. Goals scored by Alex Bernhardt, Fernando Chavez, Jordan Veillette, Marco Escobar, Troy Hudson and hat tricks scored by Juan Torres and Albaraa Mutleq.
Alex Bernhardt was named player of the match having scored on the first goal of the game and assisted 2 more before coming off just after halftime.
Women’s White
Our first women’s team had their second win of the season against AC Legends at 1-0. They dominated the game and 80- 20 possession. The only missing piece was the finishing. Great crosses came flying into the box it seemed every few minutes, but urgency in finishing was lacking. The defense was solid and dealt with their opponents strategy of through ball to one of the forwards well. Shelby Wilson assisted a Nikki Graft goal later in the first half, and they held onto the lead the rest of the match. The score should have been 4-0, but the win and shutout reflects the work put in by our women’s team.
Players of the match were Sophie Centi and Shelby Wilson. Sophie Centi was essential in FCD’s control of the midfield winning everything out of the air and playmaking. Shelby Wilson flexed her talent on the right side of the field as both an outside back as well as mid-field position controlling that side as well as serving a ton of crosses into the box.
U-23
Our U-23 team faced off against AC Legends as well this weekend and clenched their first win of the season 2-0. The team really came together this match and really began to develop their team play. The first goal was scored by Andrew Boettcher assisted by Juan Macias, and the second goal was scored again by forward Andrew Boettcher assisted by Tucker Pimser.
From the U-23 coach: “We played a much older and not very fit team, but it was a good get-right game after not playing for two weeks since the 6-1 to Rovers. Great to have the addition of some new players, and credit to the boys for starting to refine how we play together. Still a lot of work to do to get this team firing and all cylinders, but it was great to see more patient play, multiple pass transitions, and a good team first mentality out of most of the players.”
With two goals, Andrew Boettcher was named player of the match.
Masters
FCD Masters pulled off their first clean sheet of the season with a 2-0 win against SDW U-23’s. The backline and fill in goalie Brandon Best did a great job of keeping the SWD-40's at bay. The Master’s were never really threatened at the back, and were able to keep possession throughout most of the match despite a red card in the 55th minute. The goals were scored in the first half by a PK by Ray Kerzner set up by Stephen Noon and a smooth finish by Stephen Noon, to lock in the 2 points.
From the Masters Coach: “Tougher challenges await and Masters will have to deal with some pulled muscles and age but this team is perfect through two matches. Couldn't be prouder of squad coming off of a year and a half break and having so many new faces. Well done!”
The player of the match was keeper Brandon Best.
Legends
Legends defeated GAM United 2-1 for their first victory in the Elite Division. Eric Draper got both goals with assists from Charlie McDaniel and Felipe Carneiro.
Women’s Green
Our Women’s Green fought hard, but lost against Colorado Rovers 0-5. Although not necessarily reflected in the score, we saw things starting to come together for this new squad. A majority of the game we were able to stay strong against the attack and create several of our own opportunities. Without the score in mind it appeared to be a very evenly matched game. We saw tremendous improvement in our passing game, movement off the ball and communication between players. Defender Bailey Perry stepped up and provided the on field leadership and organization they were missing the first game.
Bailey Perry was named player of the match.
