Letter from Club President; Spring 2020

This article was scheduled to be a post about another exciting season of FC Denver Soccer getting underway. Two of our seven squads were set to kickoff this past weekend and all of teams had trainings or other events planned over the weekend. All that has obviously changed and we don’t know for how long. We, like so many organizations, are doing our part to limit the CO-VID19 transmission and impact on our medical systems and vulnerable populations.

While our population of players (aged 17-45) are at low risk to major symptoms of the virus because of our age and health, new information seems to be coalescing around the idea that our clubs most common age demographic (20-29) may often be asymptomatic carriers of the virus (this is likely to also be true for younger age groups as well (Source)). Meaning that if we get it, we might not be aware (no symptoms), but are still able to spread it to others may who be at more risk than us.

That’s what we’re doing here. Looking out for one another. This past week, one of our Board Members said, “we are a social club and with that comes a social responsibility” and I couldn’t agree more. We take pride in looking out for not only our 200 plus players, but also the community, city, and state, that we represent. As is our mantra, we are a family.

For now, we’ll miss playing soccer. We’ll miss the camaraderie at trainings. We’ll miss the personal challenge and accountability of competition. But we’ll have the opportunity to recognize the role we play as individuals and as an organization in the larger web of our neighborhood, city, and global communities. May that make us all feel more connected.

Take care and look out for one another,

Eric Ridgeway Fulton
President
